What Is Liver Cancer

Liver cancer is the growth and spread of unhealthy cells in the liver.

Liver cancer can arise from the liver's own tissues as well as cancer in any organ of the body may appear as metastasis to the liver. The most common cause of cancers in the liver is the spread of colon cancers here.

Apart from this, cancers of the any organs such as ovaries, lungs and prostate have a chance to metastasize to the liver. We can list cancers originating from the liver's own tissues under 3 main headings;

  1. Gall bladder cancers arising from the gall bladder,
  2. Bile duct cancers arising from the bile ducts,
  3. Hepatocellular carcinoma arising from the cells of the liver's own tissue.
